Herbert James Claud COLE (1882 - 1941)

Herbert James Claude Cole, known as Jim, was the oldest child of James Reedman Cole . He was born on 17th August 1882 and grew up at the family Pottery in White Hart Lane. For 18 years was the only son of seven sisters and said to have been very spoilt, although how much his attitude and behaviour were due to his extremely nervous disposition is impossible to judge with so much passage of time.

On 19 September 1904 he married Florence Maria Bartlett, my grandmother, at St Pauls Church, Tottenham. 

Jim worked at the local hospital in Edmonton, but was forced to stop work completely at the age of 39. In 1938 he and my grandmother moved to West Wratting in Cambridgeshire. He died in 1941 (on 19 August), so I never knew him.
